Middle East Cruise Tour Info: Our first destination on this special 24-day expedition through three highly rewarding Middle Eastern countries is Egypt, a land of magical wonder and intrigue like no other. We stroll the streets of Cairo and Alexandria, paying visits to Graeco-Roman museums to see death masks, mummies and a wealth of antiquities, and exploring Roman catacombs, theatres and the UNESCO-Heritage Bibliotheka Alexandria, once the greatest library in the ancient world. No tour to Egypt would be complete without taking time to see the awe-inspiring Great Pyramids and the Sphinx, which have since come to be symbols of Egypt's glory and mystery, and along with horse-drawn carriage rides through Luxor to Karnak Temple, donkey treks through the Valley of the Kings and a cruise down the longest river in the world, we embark on camelback trips to Christian monasteries and traditional villages. Crossing into Jordan, we tour Roman amphitheatres, archaeological museums and imposing temples before heading into the Jordanian Desert to see desert palaces constructed by the caliphs in the 8th century AD. From here, it's on to the Dead Sea, where we find numerous Biblical sites, and then on to the 'rose red city half as old as time' at Petra, arguably the most impressive archaeological site in the Middle East. Mingling with Bedouin tribesmen -- the nomadic herdsmen of the area -- yields valuable cultural insights and the spectacular beaches on the banks of the Red Sea provide the opportunity to recline in the most picturesque of settings. Last, but by no means least, is Syria. Damascus, 'the pearl of the East,' is one of the world's oldest continuously inhabited cities and makes for a fascinating tour destination, with its ancient city walls, temples, mosques and museums that boast collections that detail over 9,000 years of history.
